There are sixteen positive attributes of appropriate fire in the forest. Most significantly, fire returns vital micro- and macro-nutrients to the soil, promotes diversity and manages diseases and insect issues as well as stocking and species selection. It also promotes native species over invasives.
The same burned unit several years after planting ponderosa pine, western larch and rust resistant white pine. Note the abundance and diversity of the native ground cover

Professionally designed and constructed access roads are critical for year-round management activities as well as fire protection during the longer and droughtier summers.
Re-creating stand structure, forest structure and age class distribution across the landscape is essential for sustainable forestry. Re-building the snag component and distributing large organic debris are critical for habitat and nutrient cycling in the forest.
